If your system is karmic you need to manually update the repo.
So:
make $sudo emacs /etc/apt/source.list
go to edit Replace or Ctrl+Alt+% replace karmic with lucid.
$sudo apt-get update
#sudo apt-get distr-update

What version of PureDyne are you using?

Please try starting Rosegarden from a terminal and send along any debug
info that might come up if you can.  Otherwise it will be hard to figure
out what might be wrong.

Re: [puredyne] Puredyne Digest, Vol 79, Issue 5

it depends on your computer's bios.

its usually f2 or DEL or f12 or something at boot time, then there
should be a setting in Boot options to look for the usb port or
sometimes its seen as another hard drive.  cant really be more
specific, sorry.

some older machines don't boot from usb, in that case, check out the
plop boot loader, you can put it on a CD or floppy and then choose USB
to boot, it'll probably be really slow though, because on a computer
that old its probably USB 1
